T1 through T3 are commercial bandwidth circuits which range between 1.54 mbps (megabits per second) for t1, and 45 mbps for t3. A t3 circuit has the equivalent bandwidth of 28 t1 circuits. T1 circuits can usually be bonded to up to eight t1s, for 12 mbps. If more than 12 mbps is needed but full t3 is not, fractional t3 is an option. Fractional t3 is a good value for between 15 mbps up to 40 mbps. (For more about T1-T3 please click here)

To summarize, at one end of the continuum T1 is often sufficient for the bandwidth needs of a small to medium business. If more bandwidth is needed as the business grows for example, a business can scale up one t1 at a time, to a total of 8 bonded t1s for 12 mbps. If more bandwidth is needed beyond 12 mbps, a business can continue to scale from 15 to 40 mbps with fractional T3. If 45 mbps are needed, full T3 is the option. As the authorized agent for 22 of the largest providers in the country, we can provide real-time availability and comparative pricing for any of the bandwidth circuits mentioned above.  Modern VPNs

Written by: Dennis Green - Sep 5, 2008

Virtual private networks (VPNs) utilize major advancements in technology to establish secure private communication channels, for the transfer of data, over shared networks such as private intranets or the internet. Currently, the most popular and state-of–the-art virtual private networks are based on MPLS (multiprotocol label switching). MPLS provides any-to-any connectivity over T1 or higher bandwidth. The best MPLS networks are facilitated within the closed systems of specific tier 1 providers. With this scenario, MPLS networks are as secure as point-to-point circuits. With quality of service (QoS), MPLS networks are extremely well suited for transmitting voice, priority files, multiple location audio or videoconferencing, or high quality video transmission. For two location networks, a point-to-point private line continues to be a bit less expensive than a MPLS virtual private network. However, point-to-point lines are not normally managed by providers, so with point-to-point lines, obtaining customer premise equipment, and configuring and maintaining the equipment is the responsibility of the end user. For multiple location networks, or two location networks which you know will increase in number of locations, MPLS can be far more functional, and far less expensive than a network comprised of point-to-point lines. In most cases, full T1 or DS3 MPLS VPNs are provided with all needed hardware, installation, configuration and management of the network by the provider for about the same cost, or just slightly more, per location, than managed internet service. Managed MPLS networks are pretty much turn key for the end user. There are also a variety of options for networking DSL or Cable service as well. As the authorized sales agents for the top 20 telecom providers in the country, we can provide free comparative quotes for completely managed virtual private networks for any locations in the US, regardless of the bandwidth needed at each location. We can also provide quotes for international VPNs (including MPLS options as well). (Click here to return to top of page)
